Professional Development and Training

All dMEC staff are experienced trainers who have worked successfully in Devon Education Services (DES), the LEA advisory branch, in a range of contexts.

dMEC is working in partnership with Film Education to host a major 4 day residential conference on The Moving Image in the Digital Age. The conference is aimed at pushing forward debates around digital media and creativity in the classroom. Full details will be available later:

Some of our courses.

In addition to the programme of Professional Development courses listed in the DES Directory and on our website, we are happy to discuss with individual teachers their needs and to design appropriate training.

GCSE roadshow

The 2006 training event ran throughout the autumn term in a range of venues across the country. As usual it focused on innovative ways of approaching English teaching and provided a variety of classroom resources to support teachers in their work.

With nearly 300 teachers attending, the course evaluations showed 75% of delegates rating the course Very Good, 24.6% rating it Good and 0.4% rating it Satisfactory.

Supporting GCSE Media Studies - one day editing workshop

We are happy to offer support to schools in any aspect of their GCSE Media Studies work. The following case study indicates one possibility. We are happy to discuss any proposals and tailor them to need.

Watch highlights of a visit made to the centre by 30 students from Chulmleigh Community College to edit their GCSE Media Studies practical work.

Students had previously filmed their material on Mini DV and sent their tapes in to be digitised into the Centre's Vaio laptops. Students were given a group tutorial on how to use the editing software - Pinnacle Studio 8. They then proceeded to edit their material adding titles, music and effects under the watchful eye of their tutors, Colette McEnery-Lane and Roger Crompton. The resulting work was then transferred to VHS tapes for submission to the exam board.
