Over the past years dMEC staff have run Media and ICT Summer Schools as part of Devon County Council’s programme for Gifted and Talented pupils.

The courses, which were based at the Beaford Arts Centre in North Devon, gave the children the opportunity to do some extended work on media education assignments, using state of the art technology. The major assignment in 2001 was to produce a number of features for BBC Devon Online, which included text, digital pictures, audio clips and video montages. In 2002 the theme was Art and Design and the children worked with image manipulation and digital video editing software.

The children, aged between eleven and twelve, responded very positively to this challenge and learnt to use professional media tools very effectively.
