Introduction
Museums Luton first began to look into the possibility of developing content to deliver via videoconference in 2004. The idea was a response to the target to increase contact with secondary schools since it seemed to offer a way round our capacity issues and the more rigid high school timetable.
We secured funding through Renaissance in the Regions to cover set up costs, pay for consultants to support the project and create two pilot sessions in partnership with local secondary schools.

Eleanor Markland, Schools and Formal Learning Co-ordinator led the project for Museums Luton working closely with Tim Arnold of DMEC in a specialist consultancy role and two partner schools, Icknield High School in Luton and Biddenham Upper School in Bedford.
The aim of this case study is to provide a resource for museums and schools looking to explore the potential of videoconference as a learning tool. It includes an overview of the project, clips from the two sessions developed and comments from the museum staff, teachers and pupils about the sessions and the process of their development. The conclusion will provide practical advice and information.
